The first Huntington’s Disease Meeting for the Arabic Countries was attended by participants from 14 different countries.  Thanks for its success goes to the chair and keynote speaker Prof. Bernhard Landwehrmeyer along with a number of other high-profile presenters.

The original meeting was meant to be held live in Cairo in March 2020.  Postponed because of the pandemic, it was replaced by this virtual meeting, also coordinated by Dr Shaimaa El-Jaafary, from Egypt.

Scientific presentations were given by Prof. Michael Orth (Switzerland), Dr. Alzbeta Muehlbaeck (Germany), Prof. Michael Hayden (USA) and Prof. Pierre Krystkowiak (UAE) while Mr. Mohammed al Hajri spoke of his experience as a caregiver in Oman.  Yousef Gamal El Din wasn’t able to be there in person but sent us his video which gives a deeply moving account of his experience as one of two sons whose mother had Huntington’s Disease.

In a post meeting survey 90% of the participants, who were primarily clinical staff, said they would like similar meetings in future.

Recordings of all the presentations have been posted on YouTube.
