“Gratitude Day is a way to honor the collaboration of HD families with clinicians and scientists, which started with the efforts to identify the Huntington’s disease gene in the 1980s, and that continues to these days through various efforts around the world to find treatments for the disease”
March 23rd marks a historic moment for the Huntington’s Disease (HD) community—the day the groundbreaking publication identifying the mutation that causes HD was first reported. This milestone was the result of two decades of research and the unwavering dedication of many families affected by HD. Among them, the thousands of Venezuelans who participated in studies played a crucial role in enabling scientists to achieve this breakthrough. From that moment, everything changed.
Today, thanks to that discovery, a number of clinical trials targeting the huntingtin gene show promise and offer new hope to families worldwide.
